sketches and plans

before starting on my magazine i thought that it would have been best for me to sketch up a ruff plan for the layout of my pages.
i also have sketched a quick idea of an outfit design for the magazine.
though after sketching this design i have discovered that the theme i am doing may have to be revisited

prtofolio

for my portfolio i added in both my digital and traditional styles of art. i also tried to make the whole document match in terms of style. so i went for a theme that closely related to the themes of many of the pices of my artwork.
i was a little lost on what to put on the othersides of my pages so i chose to add in my logo.
i put contact information at the end of my portfolio as that served as a nice ending page

in design

we were required to use in design to create a decent portfolio.

in design gives you the ability to add interactivity, sound and animation to your portfolio

firstly we had to gain an understanding on how to use inDesign
so our first lesson was to learn how to use the basic features of inDesign.
all the tools were pretty much self explanatory though there were some things we were taught that will be quite help full for my final portfolio. for example we were shown how to add a page flip affect into the document, buttons to change picture or pages.

our first lesson we concentrated on the print side of in design learning how to put frames on the document to know were to account for bleeding. we played around with text and the shape tools in order to create the I logo at the top. we were also showed how to cut backgrounds out of an image

our second lesson involved learning how to add in interactivity to a document. the first main important thing i had to remember was to change the intent to web. this meant that i was then able to add in interactivity.
after this we were shown how to use the button feature to create links to other pages
this was simple to do and was helpful for letting the person viewing the portfolio to be able to navigate to any specific page they wanted.
we were also shown on how to use buttons to create small slide shows on the pages. even though i did not plan on using this technique. it is highly helpful as if i were to add allot more pictures then i would be able to show a large amount of images with it also being organised
we also used buttons to once again navigate through a portfolio. this time instead of having the choices of what pages to go to the only choices that you can chose is to go to either the next or previous page

all these tutorials helped me to gain an understanding on how to use this program. in order to create a good quality portfolio to showcase my artwork and skills

research

i had started to look at online portfolios and had found some good examples and some bad examples in my opinion of portfolios.

one of my favorite portfolio sites is carbon made   it is clear and well organised. and easy to direct your self around. also having banners for someone's portfolio in staid of just a name, is a good idea as they can show of their work before even entering it. when you go into someone's portfolio its also well organised there. the only way it can be tricky or confusing is if the owner of the portfolio put unrelated titles in for each section. but the majority of them didn't.  for example http://rahll.carbonmade.com/ this portfolio was well labelled and split into categorises. the artwork that was put on were all tidy and clean and at a professional level. another good part of this website is that it had another section to the portfolio that showed their information http://rahll.carbonmade.com/about some of them like this one had allot of information that was helpfull but there was some that had no information accept their name.

i had found a portfolio site that is not as good as the other site http://www.artistportfolio.net/
this site is hard to navigate around and is confusing. once you find were the artists portfolios are they aren't represented very well as all there is only a link of the persons name. so does not really advertise the persons art. http://www.artistportfolio.net/index.php?secret=141&artist_id=4441 once you go onto someone's gallery it isn't well organised. there are no categories to show off all the styles of the artist and is messy

overall i think that if i were to create a digital portfolio then i would make one with carbon made, as it can show my art of to the best of its ability.
though i would prefer to create a printed portfolio
